Visit a Stylish California-Casual Home With Sweeping Ocean Views

Many people flock to the Southern California coastline for the near-perfect weather and to bask in the sweeping views of the Pacific. This home sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean, but its interior layout was blocking access to the sunshine and picturesque views.

So when interior designer Andrea Burridge of AXB Interiors stepped inside and noticed the walled-off living spaces and kitchen, she saw the potential to completely open up the home to the vast horizon. “When I first entered the home, I felt the good bones of the structure, but the view of the ocean was not in view as you walked into the space,” Burridge says. “So that was my primary goal, to open the space up and give you a better view of the showstopper here, which is the ocean.”

Burridge took down walls to create an open floor plan between an expanded kitchen and living room. A new wall of sliding glass panels puts the ocean front and center and creates a seamless connection between the interiors and the patio. Multiple skylights flood the home with warm California sunshine. Neutral yet stylish materials and furnishings in beachy tones let the scenery do the talking. And a clever extra-long island table can be pulled out to seat 20 guests, who may need to sit down when taking in the stunning views.

An inspired design; breaking up the kitchen with partial wall anchored only to floor, less often used items behind the facade. So much more eye-friendly than the double island trend but achieving a mobile equivalent w/long blond table. The beautiful wide plank Belgian white oak flooring a neutral foundation for all.

Why in the world was this house, in THAT location, ever designed NOT to maximize those ocean views?! What a crime!

BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL AND BEAUTIFUL! What a unique and clever idea to have a table that moves away from the kitchen island. There was so much thought put into every design aspect in this house. I live near the ocean too, so there is no better choice than to have a wall of windows to enjoy the view.

Andrea's creativity and skill as a designer is definitely at the upper echelon. Evidence of her artistry reflects in this entire project. I would trust her to renovate any space, even a cardboard box!

Would you mind sharing the source for the dining room rug and the primary bedroom bed? Thank you. Stunning remodel (we live right down the road in San Clemente)!

I love the tray on the counter. Can you please share where this was purchased? Secondl, I do love the rattan lighting above the counter, but always look at how things need to be cleaned. Im thinking these would collect cobwebs often? without regular cleaning.

Lisa Stone- The Dining Room Rug is from Loloi Rugs and the Primary Bedroom rug is from Serena and Lily

Kimmi- I have had not any issues with the cleaning of the shades but do run a quick hand held vacuum over them from time to time. The tray is from MECOX in LA

All that open space and ocean views are wonderful! I love the neutral palette of colors and materials that allow the ocean to take center stage! And believe it or not, the movable island/table has given me an idea to solve a long-standing problem for combined dining/work space in my tiny backwoods cabin kitchen...thank you so much!

A home located by the seaside sounds like a sense of freedom. The sunshine at the seaside is particularly abundant, and furniture also needs to be more durable. It would be better if there were more plants indoor!
